“Abia Returnees From South Africa To Receive N1 Million Each”, — Abia State Govt
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has approved the immediate payment of N1,000,000 (one million naira), each as interim support to 31 verified Abia indigenes who recently returned from South Africa.
The approval was announced on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha.
According to the statement, the disbursement is designed as immediate relief to cushion the returnees and to reassure them that the state government has not abandoned them.
“The approval is for immediate relief as an interim support measure, and to reassure the returnees that the Abia State Government has not abandoned them in their moment of need,” the statement said.
Government said a comprehensive profiling of each returnee is currently ongoing to assess their individual circumstances and socio-economic realities.
The data will be used to design appropriate interventions for sustainable reintegration and social protection tailored to their specific needs.
The Governor’s office said the gesture underscores Dr. Otti’s compassion and commitment to the welfare of vulnerable persons in communities across Abia and beyond.
“It also reflects the Government’s resolve to ensure that every Abian, regardless of circumstance, is given an opportunity to recover, rebuild, and contribute meaningfully to society,” Ukoha stated.
The statement noted that since assuming office, Governor Otti has prioritized policies and programmes that protect the dignity and wellbeing of citizens, especially those facing hardship.
“The Government of Abia State under His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, reiterates that Abia remains home to all its sons and daughters. It assures that no Abian will be left behind, irrespective of their location or circumstance.”
