Contractor On The Run As Three Storey Building Collapses In Osisioma, Abia State
The contractor handling a three-storey building under construction in the Umuozue area of Osisioma Ngwa LGA has reportedly gone into hiding after the structure collapsed in the early hours of Thursday.
The building, located at No. 7 Chima Otuka Street, Osisioma, caved in at about 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, roughly eight hours after site workers had closed for the day on Wednesday evening.
The collapse also damaged a car and other property belonging to a tenant in an adjoining house.
No casualty has been confirmed as of press time.
Residents of the Umuozue community said parapet work was completed on the building on Wednesday evening by site workers. The exact cause of the collapse is yet to be determined by relevant government agencies.
In response to the incident, officials of the Osisioma Ngwa Town Planning Office sealed off the site to allow for a thorough investigation.
The Town Planning Authority said it would ascertain the structural integrity, approvals, and materials used before deciding on further action.
