Former Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation and Abia State Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Hon. Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, popularly known as Ozurumba, has commended the Federal Government for the distribution of relief materials to disaster victims in Abia.

Chief Ikoh said the prompt response by the Tinubu administration to the plight of Abia disaster victims is a clear demonstration of people-oriented governance.

He said, “The Federal Government’s intervention through NEMA has brought succour to our people in Ohafia and Umuahia South. It is proof that the Renewed Hope Agenda is not just on paper but is touching lives, especially in times of distress.”

Victims of gully erosion and windstorm disasters in Ohafia and Umuahia South Local Government Areas of Abia State received the relief materials from the Federal Government.

The intervention was carried out through the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to alleviate the suffering of affected households whose homes and means of livelihood were destroyed by the disasters.

Items distributed include bags of rice, garri, vegetable oil, mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, buckets, and other essential food and non-food materials.

The distribution exercise, which is ongoing, targets the most affected communities in the two local government areas.

He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the materials while calling on well-meaning individuals and agencies to complement government efforts in supporting disaster victims across the state.

Chief Ikoh also called on Abians, particularly the youth and stakeholders in the South-East, to continue to support the policies and programmes of the Federal Government aimed at fostering national development and social welfare.
