Abia NSCDC Signs MoU With Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic To Train Internal Security Operatives

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Abia State Command, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, to train its internal security operatives as part of efforts to improve campus security under the Safe School initiative.

The MoU was signed on Thursday, September 17, 2026, in Aba, during a meeting between the State Commandant, CC Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, and the Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Christopher Okoro Kalu.

Speaking after the meeting, Commandant Odimba reassured the public of the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives, property and educational infrastructure.

Rector Kalu disclosed that Governor Alex Otti had approved the training, expressing appreciation to the governor for the approval and to the NSCDC for its efforts in enhancing security for learning.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR has graciously approved the training of the internal security operatives,” Kalu said.

The Rector appealed to the Commandant to extend similar training opportunities to other higher institutions in the state, including Abia State University, Uturu, College of Education Technical, Arochukwu, and College of Health Technology, Aba.

In his response, Odimba described Governor Otti as security-friendly and noted that his administration has prioritized training and retraining of security personnel.

He said beneficiaries of the training would be exposed to basic security knowledge, use of modern technologically-driven security devices, dangers of illicit drug peddling and consumption, and general rules of engagement.

“The training would be thorough and only those who successfully complete the process shall be certificated,” Odimba said.

He inspected training facilities to be used for the exercise alongside the institution’s Chief Security Officer.

The Commandant also commended the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for strengthening the capacity of Training Departments of State Commands.
