Abia Govt To Hold Solemn Assembly To Rededicate State To God September 24

Abia State Government has announced plans to hold a solemn assembly and covenant renewal service on September 24, 2026, to thank God for His faithfulness and rededicate the state to God.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on September 18, 2026, during a joint press conference with the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Coordinator of the programme, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, at Government House, Umuahia.

Kanu said the initiative was borne out of the administration’s belief in seeking God’s guidance and committing the affairs of the state into His hands, noting that the state has remained under God’s hand before, during and after the 2023 elections.

“Now that an election is approaching, we believe it’s only fitting to seek God’s face once more and to rededicate this state into God’s hands, to ensure that the peace and prosperity we’ve always enjoyed over these past three years will continue,” Kanu said.

Also speaking, Prince Nwachukwu disclosed that the theme of the event is “Remembering the Covenant” and the venue is the JAAC Secretariat Auditorium, Umuahia.

He said spiritual activities would begin with a three-day fasting from September 21 to 23, during which churches across the state would observe fasting and prayers in their respective locations.

He added that thanksgiving services would follow, with Seventh-Day Adventist Church faithful holding theirs on Saturday, September 26, while other churches would observe theirs on Sunday, September 27.

Nwachukwu recalled what he described as dark years in Abia’s history marked by insecurity, bad governance and underdevelopment, saying the people cried to God for deliverance which culminated in the emergence of the present administration in 2023.

“This state is called God’s Own State, not by mistake but by divine orchestration. God has showed that He is faithful to the cries of His people,” he said.

He said the administration had in 2023 declared a seven-day fasting and prayer programme coordinated by CAN and PFN, which culminated in the rededication of the state at Ngwa High School, Aba, where a covenant was entered into with God.

“That same God, we need to go and thank Him for thus far He has led us, our Ebenezer, and renew this covenant,” he said.

Nwachukwu said the solemn assembly will not be an open-field gathering but will have invited guests including the Governor, Deputy Governor, First Lady, elected officials at federal, state and local levels, political appointees, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, Heads of Service of LGAs, Treasurers, traditional rulers and church leaders.

He disclosed that Rev. Dr. Sam Oye will minister the Word, Prophet Isa El-Buba will lead intercessory prayers, while Apostle Ofo Nzimiro who played a key role in the 2023 rededication will also be present alongside Archbishops, Bishops and other Christian leaders.
