There’s no gainsaying the fact that Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu’s political journey raises difficult questions about loyalty to those who played significant roles in his emergence. Many observers believe that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu was instrumental in his political ascent.

Against that backdrop, Ben Kalu’s subsequent political choices and public posture have created the perception that he distanced himself from his political benefactor once he attained the office of Deputy Speaker.

Public office should inspire greater humility rather than greater pride. Leadership is not measured only by the titles one holds, but by the respect one shows to elders, political associates, and the people who made the journey possible.

The growing perception of arrogance and self-glorification around Ben Kalu’s political trajectory has disappointed many constituents who expected a more inclusive and humble style of representation. Political success should never erase the history of those who offered support along the way.

Ultimately, the people of Bende Federal Constituency will decide in 2027 whether they are satisfied with the direction of their representation. Elections remain the democratic avenue through which citizens reward or reject political leadership.

As always, the final verdict belongs to the people. Ndi Bende are waiting for Ben Kalu in 2027 to humiliate him in the polls as he will fail woefully starting from his Bende ward, and that will be his political albatross.
