2027: ABIA PATRIOTS CAUTION POLITICIANS AGAINST MONEY POLITICS, VIOLENCE AND DIRTY CAMPAIGNS

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Abia Patriots, TAP, a grassroots-oriented socio-political group, has cautioned politicians against introducing unconventional schemes and strategies that could reverse the gains recorded in Abia State in the last three and half years.

In a press statement signed by the group’s Secretary General, Mazi Adindu Madumere, TAP expressed concern over the activities of some federally sponsored political groups currently engaged in what it described as a “dirty war of supremacy” in the state.

“We are watching with dismay the early introduction and weaponization of money politics in a state that has traditionally remained calm and peaceful,” Mazi Madumere stated.

“Abia does not need politics of deceit, propaganda and violence. What our people need now is issue-based engagement that addresses poverty, infrastructure, jobs and healthcare.”

TAP urged political support groups and campaign organizations to shun unfounded rhetoric and monetary inducements, and instead focus on presenting manifestos and verifiable achievements to the people.

“Parties should present their manifestos and achievements to the people while avoiding deceit, lies and monetary inducements,” Madumere opined.

“The electorate must be allowed to make choices based on records, not on stomach infrastructure or violence.”

The group further advised all stakeholders to prioritize peace, unity and the continued development of Abia State above personal or partisan interests as the 2027 elections approach.

Against this backdrop, Abia Patriots made a direct appeal to the people of Abia to defend the integrity of the electoral process.

“We call on Abians to resist every similitude of election fraud, vote buying and violence,” Madumere said.

“Do not sell your conscience for a bag of rice or a few thousand naira. Do not allow thugs and political merchants to use you to destroy the peace we have laboured to build.”

TAP urged citizens, youth groups, market associations, traditional rulers and religious leaders to mobilize for the good of the state by demanding accountability, participating peacefully, and voting according to conscience and capacity.

“Let the 2027 elections in Abia be about ideas, performance and service delivery, not about who can spend the most money or shout the loudest,” the statement added.

“Abians deserve a government that will be responsible to the people, pay pensions, create jobs and deliver infrastructure.”

TAP also called on INEC, security agencies, civil society and the media to help ensure a level playing field and protect voters from intimidation and inducement.
