Umuhu Ezechi Group Raises Alarm Over Failed Road, Two Months After

The Movement for Greater Umuhu Ezechi has commended the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, for commencing work on the Amazu – Umuhu Ezechi – Amaeke Abam Road, while raising serious concerns over an abandoned road project in the Ward.

In an open letter signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Kelechi Uduma, the group said it was grateful that work has finally commenced on the Amazu – Umuhu Ezechi – Amaeke Abam Road in fulfillment of the promise made by the Deputy Speaker during his last visit to Umuhu Ezechi Ward.

However, the group expressed disappointment over the state of the 2km Amazu – Umuokwe Road, which was flagged off on November 24, 2024.

According to the letter, nearly two years after it was flagged off, the project has been abandoned halfway, with failed drainage, incomplete asphalting, and collapsed portions on sections already asphalted less than two months after completion.

Comrade Uduma attributed the situation to unnecessary delays by the contractor handling the project.

The group passionately appealed to the Deputy Speaker, popularly known as Ota Biri Bende, to undertake an on-the-spot assessment of the project to ascertain the quality of work done.

It also called on the Deputy Speaker to use the visit to inspect the failed solar-powered borehole project at Umuokwe, attracted by him in his first term as the first major project in Umuhu Ezechi Ward, which it said is currently not functional.

Despite the concerns, the Movement reaffirmed its loyalty to the Deputy Speaker, saying the people of Umuhu Ezechi Ward are looking forward to the commissioning of the ongoing projects.

“Be rest assured that 100% of our votes is for you come 2027. Umuhu Ezechi Ward will demonstrate a kind of organic support for you that cannot be compared with the 2023 Obi Wave,” the statement added.
