2027: NDC Gov Candidate Ogah Promises Transparent, Accountable Government
Says current administration spends time “explaining errors in figures” after public backlash
Governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Abia State, Etugo Ndubuisi Ogah, has pledged to run a transparent and accountable administration if elected in the 2027 general elections.
Ogah made the promise on Thursday while speaking with selected journalists in Umuahia, where he unveiled parts of his governance blueprint for the state.
The NDC candidate said Abians deserve a government that gets the numbers right from the start, not one that is constantly in the news “explaining errors in writing figures” after facing public criticism.
“What we are seeing today is a government that makes mistakes with public funds and budgets, and then spends the next week issuing press statements to correct them,” Ogah said.
“Under my administration, transparency will not be a slogan. It will be the standard. Every kobo of Abia money will be accounted for, and citizens will have access to how it is spent.”
Ogah said his government will prioritize open budgeting, quarterly financial reports, and an independent public expenditure tracking system.
He added that ministries, departments and agencies will be required to publish project costs and implementation status online to allow citizens and the media to monitor them.
“We cannot develop Abia with errors and corrections. Investors don’t come to a place where government figures change after social media backlash,” he stated.
“We will build systems that prevent those errors, not systems that defend them.”
The NDC flag bearer also outlined plans to strengthen local government autonomy to ensure resources get to the grassroots, adding that his administration will revamp infrastructure in Aba and Umuahia with public-private partnerships and proper procurement records
He said he would support SMEs and traders with accessible funding and security in major markets.
Ogah urged Abians to look beyond party lines in 2027 and vote for competence and credibility.
“The 2027 election is about the future of our children. Abia needs leadership that respects the people enough to be honest with them from day one,” he said.
The NDC is expected to formally launch its campaign in the coming months ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.
