The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has been accused of claiming a water project executed by Dr. Chima Anyaso in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by the Director of Media, Chima Anyaso Campaign Council, Promise Uzoma Okoro on his Facebook. According to the statement, the water project located at Agbo Lodu Imenyi in Bende LGA was started, completed and made functional by Dr. Chima Anyaso, with plastic tanks, and is still serving the community.

Okoro said during the 2026 August Meeting of the Agbo Lodu people, Anyaso, who was represented by his Campaign Director General, Pastor Okechukwu Dike, promised to provide a bigger water tank to complement the existing borehole.

He alleged that last week, someone informed the Deputy Speaker about the development and asked him to provide the tank, and the tank was subsequently bought.

“Rather than simply acknowledging the contribution as a donation to an existing water project, the name of the Deputy Speaker was boldly written on the TANK in a manner that creates the impression that he executed the entire project,” Okoro said.

“Is this not another case of desperation to claim a project executed by someone else? But there is one thing that cannot be deceived: history.”

Okoro maintained that the wall of the borehole still bears the name of the man who drilled and completed the project and the facility is still functional.

“If the Deputy Speaker has now provided a bigger tank, that contribution can be acknowledged. There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving credit where credit is due. But providing a tank for an existing borehole does not change who drilled and completed the borehole,” he said.

He added that political competition should not make anyone rewrite history, stressing that the people know who did what and the project itself is evidence.
