A’Ibom Police Directs Political Rally Organisers To Give Prior Notice

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has directed all political parties, support groups and associations to formally notify the police before holding any rally, procession, campaign or large public political gathering in the state.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, the Command said the directive is to prevent clashes, avoid scheduling conflicts at the same venue, route, date or time, and to enable adequate security and traffic arrangements.

Organisers are expected to communicate with the police in advance and provide details including date, time, venue, expected number of participants, and proposed routes where applicable.

The Commissioner warned political thugs and troublemakers to desist from violence, saying the police will take firm and lawful action against anyone found fomenting trouble, engaging in thuggery, carrying offensive weapons, intimidating opponents, destroying property, or unlawfully blocking public roads.

He directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders across the state to intensify intelligence gathering and provide adequate security around political activities and other public gatherings.

The Command said it remains committed to providing a level playing field for all political parties irrespective of affiliation.
