The Abia Patriots (TAP) Calls for Thorough Investigation into Allegations Against Senator Kalu

Following the allegation made by the Abia State chapter of the Labour Party against the former governor of Abia State who is the senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, where the party claimed that the loot of the former governor from the Abia State coffers is worth N270 billion today, a right group, The Abia Patriots TAP has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to thoroughly investigate the matter.

The group in a statement on Wednesday, endorsed by its Secretary General, Mazi Adindu Madumere, expressed shock at the allegation levelled against the senator.

“The Abia Patriots, a group committed to transparency and accountability in governance, is shocked and disturbed by the allegations leveled against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State. The Labour Party’s statement claiming Kalu’s alleged loot from Abia coffers is worth N270 billion today demands a thorough and impartial investigation”.

“We urge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant agencies to probe these allegations, considering Kalu’s conviction in 2019 for stealing N7.65 billion from Abia State coffers, later overturned by the Supreme Court on technical grounds. The EFCC should revisit this case, ensuring that justice is served and the people of Abia State get answers”.

The allegations against Kalu include diverting funds meant for state development, acquiring extensive properties in the US, and using state resources for personal gain.

” If true, these actions constitute a gross betrayal of public trust and warrant severe consequences”.

“We demand transparency and accountability from Kalu and his associates. The people of Abia State deserve to know how their resources were utilized during his tenure. We call on Governor Alex Otti’s administration to cooperate fully with investigating agencies and ensure those responsible are held accountable”.
