Ogbonnaya Ọnụ Polytechnic Commences Academic Activities At Osisioma Campus

The Rector of Ogbonnaya Ọnụ Polytechnic Aba, Prof. Christopher Kalu Okoro has encouraged students of the School of Environmental Design and Technology (SEDT) to take advantage of their relocation to the Osisioma campus of the institution to gain practical exposure that complements their academic training.

Prof Okoro gave the charge in Aba during a visit to the campus where he disclosed that students would have opportunities for practical engagement on-site, with provisions for stipends tied to their level of participation.

‎The Rector further stated that measures, including temporary transportation support for six months, have been put in place to ease the transition.

The Rector highlighted the relevance of their academic fields to the ongoing development of the campus, noting that their training aligns with the planning and execution processes required for such projects.

The school, comprising six departments within the built environment discipline, commenced activities at the new campus with the first semester examinations for the 2025/2026 academic session, which began earlier today.

The development follows a promise made by the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, during the institution’s 2024/2025 convocation ceremony held on December 5, 2025. At the event, the governor stated that academic operations would begin at the new site before the end of the year, a position that has prompted accelerated infrastructural development and rehabilitation at the campus.

‎ Although the Osisioma site has existed for over three decades, major rehabilitation and construction works intensified between 2025 and 2026 as part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and expand learning facilities.

During a visit to the campus, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Engr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, accompanied by members of the institution’s management team, acknowledged the students’ compliance with the relocation directive, noting that SEDT is the first school to move to the new site.
