The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Abia State on Tertiary Education, Dr. Chukwuemeka Enyiazu, has reaffirmed Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to promoting unity and cooperation among tertiary institutions in the state through sports.

Dr. Enyiazu stated this on Wednesday as the Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, and the Abia State College of Nursing Sciences, Amachara, received the Torch of Unity ahead of the 2026 Sports Fiesta organised by the Abia State Ministry of Tertiary Education.

He noted that the Tertiary Education Sports Fiesta has continued to bring together students and stakeholders from federal, state, and private tertiary institutions, fostering unity, friendship and healthy competition.

Dr. Enyiazu encouraged students to participate actively in the various sporting activities, emphasising the importance of inclusivity and urging students with special needs to take part in the competition.

He also called on students and other stakeholders to turn out en masse for the Sports Fiesta scheduled to hold from November 3 to 7, 2026.

In their separate remarks, the Provost of Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, Dr. Idowu Obukohwo Eluwa, and the Provost of Abia State College of Nursing Sciences, Amachara, Dr. (Mrs.) Amarachi Okorie, expressed appreciation to Governor Alex Otti for the initiative.

They described the Sports Fiesta as a laudable programme that would strengthen relationships among tertiary institutions, promote sportsmanship and encourage unity among students across the state.

The two provosts also pledged their institutions’ full support and commitment to the success of the Sports Fiesta and the developmental agenda of the Otti-led administration.

The Torch of Unity ceremony forms part of the activities leading up to the 2026 Tertiary Education Sports Fiesta, which aims to promote unity, inclusiveness and sporting excellence among tertiary institutions in Abia State.
