The Executive Chairman of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Dcn Bassey Uwabunkonye has been called upon to reflect on the responsibilities of his office and to put them fully into action.

The call was contained in an open letter by “a concerned son of Bende LGA”, and a Bende South House of Assembly aspirant, identified as Emeka Loveday, addressed to the Mayor, Dcn Bassey Uwabunkonye on Thursday.

The letter which was accompanied by a short video clip of a dilapidated school building, with school pupils learning inside reminded the Mayor that his office is not just a ceremonial, rather, a responsibility that demands visible leadership and consistent engagement with the communities under his service.

“The office you occupy is not just ceremonial; it is a responsibility that demands visible leadership and consistent engagement with the communities you serve”.

Mr Loveday wondered if the Mayor could mention what concrete work is being done to address the real needs of the people by his leadership in the council.

“It is important to ask: beyond attending small gatherings and receiving visitors at the secretariat, what concrete work is being done to address the real needs of the people?”

“This is a call to reflect on the responsibilities of your office and to put them fully into action. Our local government has great potential, and our people deserve leadership that matches that potential”.

A local government chairman is expected to move around the communities within the LGA, understand the challenges on the ground, and respond to the basic needs of the people. Leadership at this level requires presence, initiative, and action that people can see and feel.

“I ask these questions because many of us feel that the weight of a truly functional chairman is not being carried as it should be. Our people deserve a local government that works actively to improve their daily lives”.

“If you wish to commend the efforts of His Excellency, Alex Otti, then the best way to do so is through real grassroots work. Let the people see development, responsiveness, and leadership across the communities in Bende LGA. Leadership is demonstrated not by remaining in the secretariat or singing political praises, but by engaging the people, understanding their needs, and delivering results”.

“We look forward to seeing stronger engagement, meaningful initiatives, and visible progress across Bende LGA”.
