APC Backs Anosike As Anambra Chairman, Orders Members To Drop Lawsuits, Embrace Reconciliation

The National Working Committee, NWC, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has reaffirmed Senator Emma Anosike as the recognized State Chairman of the party in Anambra, while urging aggrieved members to withdraw all pending court cases and pursue internal reconciliation.

The decision was announced on Tuesday in Awka by the APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye, during a stakeholders’ meeting themed “Domesticating Peace at the Grassroots.”

Nwoye led the party’s National Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Committee to the engagement, which had in attendance party leaders, ward executives, women and youth leaders, and representatives of factions that emerged after the March governorship primary.

Presenting the committee’s resolutions, Nwoye said the NWC had endorsed its recommendations and recognized the Senator Emma Anosike-led State Executive Committee as the legitimate leadership structure of the APC in Anambra.

“We recognise the state leadership of the party led by Senator Emma Anosike as the chairman, and the party is putting measures in place to harmonise and accommodate other interests so that peace can be restored,” he said.

He noted that the national leadership had appealed the court judgment affecting the state executive and secured a stay of execution pending the final determination of the matter, in order to preserve the existing structure.

The deputy national chairman urged members involved in litigation to withdraw their cases, saying court battles were deepening divisions within the party.

“We agreed that people should withdraw all litigations because they lead the party nowhere. There must be discipline in our party. Whether we like it or not, the supremacy of the party must prevail,” Nwoye stated.

He warned that the party would no longer tolerate actions capable of undermining unity and stressed that all members must adhere to the APC Constitution and internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

According to the reconciliation committee, the crisis in Anambra APC stemmed from disputed party structures, alleged controversial candidate substitutions, prolonged litigation, and claims of disciplinary actions without due process.

Nwoye said the committee considered dissolving rival structures but opted to retain the current leadership while creating room for inclusion and accommodation of other interests.

The committee also reaffirmed that Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the party’s governorship candidate in the last election, remains the recognized leader of the party in Anambra State, with his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, serving as deputy leader, in line with the APC constitution.

Nwoye said the Awka meeting marked a shift from dialogue to implementation following an earlier reconciliation meeting in Abuja.

“We are not gathered to reopen old wounds but to deepen the peace that began in Abuja. Politics is local, and any peace that does not reach the grassroots is incomplete,” he said.

He emphasized that ward executives, local government officials, women, youth leaders and polling unit officers remain critical to the party’s electoral success.

The deputy national chairman assured that all submissions from stakeholders would be documented and presented to the NWC to guide an inclusive reconciliation framework ahead of future elections.
