Abia State Health Commissioner Applauds Chima Anyaso Foundation Free Eye Care Outreach

The Commissioner for Health in Abia State, Prof. Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, has applauded the Chima Anyaso Foundation for organizing a five-day free eye care medical outreach across the 13 wards of Bende Federal Constituency.

The outreach, sponsored by the foundation in partnership with Rebirth Ministries, provided free eye examinations, medical consultations, prescription glasses, medications, and surgical interventions to hundreds of beneficiaries drawn from different communities within the constituency.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Prof. Uche described the initiative as a timely intervention that aligns with the Abia State Government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare, particularly in rural communities where eye care services remain limited.

According to him, preventable blindness and untreated eye conditions continue to pose serious public health challenges, and partnerships with private foundations and faith-based organizations remain essential in bridging healthcare gaps.

“This outreach demonstrates how private initiatives can complement government efforts in delivering people-centered healthcare. The impact we have witnessed here is commendable and worthy of emulation,” the Commissioner stated.

Founder of the foundation, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, popularly known as Ofuji, reiterated his commitment to improving the wellbeing of the people through sustained humanitarian interventions.

He noted that the eye care programme was designed to restore sight, reduce avoidable blindness, and improve the quality of life of residents, especially the elderly and underserved populations.

Medical personnel involved in the exercise disclosed that many beneficiaries received life-changing treatments, including cataract surgeries and corrective lenses, enabling several patients to regain clear vision after years of impairment.

Community leaders and beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation to the Chima Anyaso Foundation and its partners, describing the outreach as impactful, compassionate, and highly beneficial to the grassroots.

The five-day outreach marks another milestone in ongoing private sector contributions toward strengthening healthcare delivery in Abia State and promoting inclusive development across Bende Federal Constituency.
