Abia Police Command Gets New CP
The Abia State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi as the 35th Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command.
He succeeds AIG Danladi Isa, who has been promoted and redeployed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID Annex, Kaduna.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on Monday, 10th August 2026.
According to the statement, CP Afolabi is a seasoned and accomplished officer of the Nigeria Police Force with over three decades of meritorious service.
He enlisted into the Force as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on 18th May 1992. He holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Botany from the University of Ilorin, a Postgraduate Diploma and a Master’s degree in Peace and Security Studies from the University of Port Harcourt.
He has also attended strategic courses including the Strategic Leadership and Command Course, NIPSS Abuja; Tactical Leadership Command Course, Police Staff College Jos; Internal Security/Low Intensity Conflict Course, AFCSC Jaji; and Peacekeeping Negotiation Course, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Ghana.
Chinaka said the new CP has extensive international policing experience. “He served as Pioneer Sector Commander, Sector 2 Nyala and Pioneer Regional Commander, Southern Darfur under the African Union Mission in Sudan (2004–2005). He was also Nigeria Contingent Commander and Special Response Unit Officer under the Human Rights Section of the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2001–2002)”.
“On the home front, he has held key command and administrative positions nationwide. Prior to Abia, he was CP Admin, Training & Development, Force Headquarters Abuja*. He also served as *Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command* where he strengthened intelligence networks and promoted community policing”, the statement added
“Other postings include: DCP (Admin) Delta State; DCP (CID) Katsina; DCP (Operations) Bayelsa; ACP (Operations) Imo; ACP (Intelligence) Abuja; Area Commander Anambra; DPO in multiple divisions in Abuja; and Unit Commander, Police Mobile Force, Plateau State”.
“He has also undertaken ad-hoc national assignments including serving as Aide-De-Camp to visiting Heads of State and participating in the organization of the All African Games and Commonwealth Summit”.
“CP Afolabi is a Fellow of Peace and Security Studies, University of Port Harcourt and a Justice of the Peace (JP). He is married with children. His hobbies include traveling and reading”.
The Abia State Police Command described CP Afolabi as a “disciplined, strategic, and result-oriented officer” whose career reflects deep commitment to public safety and professional excellence.
The Command called for the cooperation of stakeholders and members of the public to support the new Commissioner in ensuring the safety and security of citizens in Abia State.
