An Abia Based Rights Group, The Abia Patriots, TAP, has expressed shock and dismay over the alleged threat by a group, identified as United Front for a New Abia (UFNA), describing it as a deliberate attempt to distract the Governor from his critical task of governance and an affront to the people of Abia State.

The group in a statement on Wednesday, March 25, 2025 said the claims by the UFNA, are frivolous and unverifiable, questioning the integrity of the group and why UFNA would choose to communicate through what it regarded as “a threat”.

“We categorically state that UFNA’s claims are frivolous and unverifiable, and their actions are a clear attempt to distract Governor Otti from his critical task of governance. Who are these individuals hiding behind UFNA, and what are their motivations? Why do they choose to communicate through threats and ultimatums?”

According to the statement which was signed by its Secretary General Mazi Adindu Madumere and made available to newsmen, TAP stated unequivocally that it does not speak for the governor, saying their actions was born out of their core enshrined duty as patriotic elders.

“We want to restate that The Abia Patriots does not speak for the Governor, as this intervention, like many others in past, is necessitated by our enshrined duty as patriotic elders of the land not to keep quiet in the face unethical behaviour threatening the peace of Abia. The Igbo proverb says, ‘It is unethical for elders to sit idly while the pregnant goat delivers on tithers.’ We cannot stand idly by while agents of opposition and destabilization disguise themselves as concerned citizens to undermine the progress of our state”.

“If they had good intentions, why communicate such through threats? Is the Governor so inaccessible that the only way to reach him is through time-bound threats issued by faceless self-styed liberators on social media?” This is a clear indication that UFNA is more interested in destabilizing the government than in genuine concern for the people of Abia State”.

“We remind UFNA that Governor Otti has established the office of the ombudsman, led by retired Justice Kyrian Chukwuemeka Nwankpa, to receive legitimate complaints regarding official conduct of public officials. This office serves as an independent intermediary between the residents of Abia State and the government, focusing on receiving complaints, investigating maladministration, and promoting transparency and accountability”.

“Furthermore, Abia state is blessed with the presence of a Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, that is empowered by the federal government to receive and interrogate such issues. UFNA should rather avail themselves of the services provided by these statutory agencies of government, than attempt blackmailing the government”.

“We therefore urge these emergency activists wearing the mask of UFNA to desist from their destructive path and allow Governor Otti to continue his good work for Abia is in a hurry to catch up with other developing states and will not snooze!”
