2027: Abia Labour Party Targets 1.5 Million Members

The ruling Labour Party in Abia State has emphasized the need for effective and aggressive membership drive and registration in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Abia State Chief Liaison Officer, Chief Iheanyi Chinasa stated this on Sunday during a strategic stakeholders meeting of the party in Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

According to him, the state governor, Dr Alex Otti gave the directive that members mobilize and register people into the party.

The Labour Party Chieftain said the party targets to get 2 million members before the Congresses which is expected to commence on the 21st of March, 2026.

He encouraged members to target 3 thousand members in each ward in all the seventeen local government areas of the state.

Contributing, the Mayor of Bende local government area, Chief Bassey Uwabunkonye encouraged serving and past Councilors, government appointees and other stakeholders to take the action back to their various wards and make it a reality.

Chief Uwabunkonye reconfirmed that it was the directive of the governor, Dr Alex Otti.

He charged the party faithful not to give any room for the opposition to use for litigation, adding that the party must come up with a good number to be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, 21 days before the Congresses.

On her part, the Deputy Mayor of Bende local government area, Mrs Ngozi Ọnụ called on party members to make sacrifices to ensure the success of the process.

The meeting, brought together councilors (past and present), government appointees (past and present), party leadership, Abia Arise members, Labour Party members among others.
