Circulating Photos of Bende LG Entrance Road Misleading, Does Not Reflect True Situation – Mayor Uwabunkeonye

The Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Deacon Bassey Uwabunkeonye, has clarified that pictures currently circulating on social media purportedly showing the deplorable state of the entrance road into the Local Government headquarters do not reflect the true state of the road.

Deacon Bassey made the clarification on Thursday in his office in Bende while interacting with the executive members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Bende Local Government Area chapter.

According to the Mayor, his administration has carried out palliative works on the road to make it motorable, noting that over N5 million has already been expended on the intervention.

He explained that the road has been a major concern to his administration since assumption of office, which informed the decision to embark on immediate palliative measures to ease movement for workers, visitors and residents who use the road daily to access the council secretariat.

Deacon Bassey further disclosed that talks have reached an advanced stage with the Abia State Government led by Governor Dr. Alex Otti, for the Ministry of Works to handle the 1.2 kilometers road through direct labour.

He said the collaboration with the state government became necessary to ensure a permanent and durable solution, rather than continuous palliative interventions that may not stand the test of time.

The Bende Mayor urged members of the public to disregard the narrative being pushed on social media, describing those behind it as disgruntled elements whose aim is to score cheap political points.

He noted that such deliberate misinformation is intended to discredit the efforts of his administration and that of the state government, adding that his government remains focused on delivering tangible dividends to the people of Bende.

Deacon Bassey reassured the youths and the entire Bende populace of his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and good governance, and called for continued support for the administration of Governor Alex Otti.

He commended the NYCN Bende chapter for their visit and for showing interest in developmental issues in the local government, assuring that his doors remain open for constructive engagement.
