Abia: Judiciary Workers Suspend Strike
The Abia State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, has announced the suspension of its industrial action which began on March 15, 2026.
The suspension of the strike follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Abia state government aimed at resolving the lingering issues.
This was disclosed in a statement jointly signed by the Abia State Chairman of the union, Comrade Prince Chinedu Ezeh, and the State Secretary, Comrade Chibueze Nwachukwu, saying the decision takes immediate effect after the agreement was ratified by the union congress.
The Memorandum of Understanding, the statement said, substantially addressed the concerns raised by the judiciary workers during the strike.
JUSUN commended the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, for his intervention and commitment towards prioritising the welfare of judiciary workers in the state.
The union also appreciated the understanding and support of Abia residents and the general public throughout the period of the industrial action, especially in the collective effort towards strengthening and emancipating the judiciary.
It further expressed gratitude to the Chief Judge of Abia State, Hon. Justice Lilian Abai, members of the judiciary management, judges, the bench, the Nigerian Bar Association, senior lawyers and other stakeholders for their support and interventions during the strike.
The union specifically applauded its members for their patience, resilience, discipline and solidarity throughout the industrial action, noting that their commitment contributed immensely to the pursuit of justice and the rule of law.
JUSUN described the suspension of the strike as a significant milestone in the struggle for a more independent, efficient and financially autonomous judiciary in Abia State.
The union expressed hope that all agreements reached in the Memorandum of Understanding would be fully implemented to further strengthen the judiciary and improve justice delivery across the state.
