Ugba Community Applauds Government for Evacuation of an Age Long Refuse Dump, Solicites for Youth Employment at Central Bus Terminal

The Ugba Community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, South East Nigeria has expressed deep appreciation to the Abia State government for the commencement of evacuation of an age long refuse dump at Orie Ugba market.

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, the youth president of the community, Comrade Chinomso Maduka applauded the governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, management and staff of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA, the Deputy General Manager of ASEPA, Umuahia Zone, Catechist Ambrose Jonah for making the evacuation a reality.

According to Comrade Maduka, the refuse dump has been in the market for over fifty years.

He recalled that the community had written several letters to the government over the years for the dump to be carted away but got no response from previous administrations in the state.

“I want to use this medium to thank the DGM of ASEPA, who made it possible with the collaboration of the community, who wrote to him and he responded through the governor of Abia State, the working governor of Abia State. The refuse has stayed up to 50 years in my community here at Orie Ugba. Now they have come to our rescue to evacuate the waste. We want to thank the government of Abia State, ASEPA especially. May God continue to bless them”.

“We want to say a very big thank you on the behalf of my community, our youth at large, our parent body and the women, they are also happy. That refuse has been there for a very long time and it is under this administration that it was evacuated. I want to say very big thank you to Dr. Alex Otti, Catechist Ambrose Jonah, the DGM ASEPA, for responding and for his quick response to come to our rescue. I say God bless all of them”.

Comrade Maduka further commended the Abia State government under the leadership of Dr Alex Otti for the construction of the central Bus Terminal at the popular Isị Gate Umuahia.

He further pleaded with the governor to consider Ugba youths for employment at the bus terminal when it becomes operational.

According to him, most of the young people in his community, Ugba, are unemployed which he said when employed will reduce the risk of involvement in substance abuse, crime and criminality.

He pledged their support for the governor in his reelection bid.

“We also thank him (the Governor), for providing a bus terminal for us. That place is also Ugba community. We want him to consider the community, the youth of the community, to give them job opportunities at that bus terminal. We will be grateful and still follow him till 2031”.
