MOUAU Empowers Farmers With Fertilizers, Farm Inputs
Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), has distributed 350 bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer and farm inputs to farmers drawn from adopted communities of the three Agricultural Zones of Abia State, as part of its corporate social responsibility and empowerment policy.
The distribution of the items on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, was coordinated by the Director, MOUAU Extension Centre (MEC), Prof. Uchechi Apu who represented the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Iwe said the distribution forms part of the University’s sustained intervention programme aimed at supporting rural farmers with essential inputs at the onset of the planting season.
He noted that the exercise marks the third phase of distribution of agricultural input under his administration, reflecting a deliberate policy to strengthen the University’s community engagement with critical stakeholders.
According to the VC, the timely distribution of the fertilizer and improved seed varieties is expected to significantly boost crop performance during the current planting season. He assured the farmers that the University would continue to provide technical support, training, and extension services to complement the inputs distributed.
The benefiting farmers expressed deep appreciation to the University for what they described as consistent and impactful support.

Mrs. Gloria Orji from the Umuahia Zone
commended the Vice-Chancellor and the University for sustaining the intervention for throughout the lifespan of his administration, noting that the support has become a dependable source of encouragement to local farmers.
