Gov Otti Announces Phase 2 Renovation of NYSC Camp, Says Abia Is Safe For 8,800 Corps Members

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that the second phase of renovations at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Umunna in Bende LGA, will begin immediately as part of efforts to improve the welfare of corps members serving in the state.

The Governor disclosed this after receiving the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, and his delegation in Abia State.

In a statement posted on his social media handle, Governor Otti said his administration was encouraged by the DG’s commendation of Abia as a safe, peaceful and welcoming environment for corps members.

According to the Governor, over 8,800 corps members are currently serving across all 17 LGAs of the state, with a notably higher number of female participants.

“The NYSC has affirmed that Abia is a place of peace and opportunity,” he stated.

Governor Otti expressed delight at the ongoing renovations at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Umunna and the improvements in healthcare facilities across the state.

He noted that more than 340 NYSC healthcare professionals are currently serving in Abia, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery.

“We will continue to invest in the welfare of corps members and ensure Abia remains a model of safety, service, and progress,” he added.

The Governor said the collaboration between the state government and NYSC is key to harnessing the potential of young Nigerians for community development.
