In a society where many acts of generosity are often driven by recognition, political calculations, or public applause, there are still a few extraordinary individuals whose compassion flows naturally from the heart. Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, fondly known as Ofuji, belongs to that rare class of leaders.

One of the most powerful testimonies to his character recently came from the Chairman of Ridge Club Umuahia, Chief Agu Ukaogo Agu, who recalled an unforgettable encounter that took place around the year 2000.

According to him, Chima Anyaso had visited Ridge Club for a meeting. During the visit, he used the club’s restroom and discovered that it was in a deplorable condition. He quietly turned to Chief Agu and asked, “Deede, is this where you people ease yourselves? I will build a new toilet for your club.”

There was no public announcement. No media cameras. No fundraising appeal. No political ambition attached to the gesture.

More remarkably, Chima Anyaso was not even a member of Ridge Club. He had no intention of joining the club or deriving any personal benefit from it. Yet, within a few days, one of his aides informed the club that construction work had already commenced.

That single act tells us more about the man than a thousand campaign speeches ever could.

True philanthropy is not measured by the size of donations alone but by the willingness to notice the silent needs of others and respond without being prompted. Chima Anyaso possesses that uncommon sensitivity. He does not wait until people beg before extending a helping hand. He sees a problem, takes ownership of it, and provides a solution.

This explains why, over the years, his humanitarian footprints have continued to spread across communities through educational support, healthcare interventions, youth empowerment, assistance to widows, infrastructure projects, and countless acts of kindness that have transformed lives without seeking headlines.

Compassion, when combined with competence, produces transformational leadership. Public office should not merely be occupied by those who make promises during elections but by those whose lives have consistently demonstrated a commitment to serving humanity.

If a private citizen could voluntarily improve facilities in a club to which he did not belong simply because he believed people deserved better, one can only imagine the passion and commitment he would bring to the responsibility of representing the good people of Bende Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

The testimony of Chief Agu Ukaogo Agu is not merely about a toilet project. It is about empathy. It is about character. It is about a man whose instinct is to solve problems rather than ignore them.
