Abia State is set to host the 2026 World Teqball Championship Qualifiers, scheduled to hold from October 29th to 31st, 2026, at the prestigious Aba Sports Club in Aba.

The three-day national sporting event will bring together top Teqball athletes from across various states of the federation who will compete for coveted slots to represent Nigeria at the World Teqball Championship.

According to the organisers, athletes will compete in five categories, including Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. The competition is expected to showcase high levels of skill, agility, and sportsmanship as players battle for national qualification.

The championship is being supported by the Abia State Government under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, OFR, as part of the administration’s commitment to sports development, youth empowerment, and positioning Abia as a hub for national and international sporting events.

The hosting of the qualifiers is seen as a major boost for sports development in the state, as it will provide a platform for local talents to gain exposure, compete at the highest level, and attract international recognition for Teqball, a fast-growing sport globally that combines elements of football and table tennis.

The state government noted that the event aligns with its agenda to promote sporting excellence, discover and nurture talents, encourage youth participation in sports, and drive tourism and economic activities in Aba and Abia State at large.

The organisers have assured that adequate preparations have been made to ensure a successful and hitch-free tournament, with necessary facilities and logistics put in place at the Aba Sports Club.

The championship promises exciting and competitive action, as athletes from across the country vie for the opportunity to wear the national colours at the World Teqball Championship.

Sports enthusiasts, stakeholders, and members of the public are expected to turn out en masse to witness the thrilling encounters and support the athletes.

The 2026 World Teqball Championship Qualifiers in Abia will not only be a celebration of sports but also a demonstration of Governor Otti’s resolve to reposition Abia State as a destination for major sporting events in Nigeria and beyond.
