The Mayor of Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Deacon Bassey Uwabunkeonye, has called on the Works Department of the council to expedite action on the gully erosion intervention work at the Local Government Secretariat.

Deacon Uwabunkeonye made the call on Thursday during an inspection visit to the erosion site which has claimed the road leading to the Town Planning Authority, Education Authority and the Board of Internal Revenue offices in the council.

The Mayor, who expressed concern over the extent of damage caused by the erosion, said urgent intervention was needed to prevent further deterioration and to protect public infrastructure within the secretariat complex.

He noted that the collapsed road has hampered access for staff and residents seeking services at the affected offices, stressing that government cannot afford to allow the situation to linger.

According to him, the present administration in Bende is committed to providing a safe and conducive working environment for workers and ensuring that all facilities within the council remain accessible.

Deacon Uwabunkeonye directed the Works Department to speed up the work and ensure that the remedial work is carried out without delay.

He assured that his administration will provide the necessary support to ensure the project is completed in good time, adding that proactive measures would also be put in place to prevent recurrence of such erosion in other parts of the secretariat.

Staff at the council who witnessed the inspection commended the Mayor for his prompt response and hands-on approach to governance.
