Married Father Of Two Allegedly Impersonates Catholic Priest, Celebrates Mass In Kenya

A man identified as Jones Bogonko Onchonga has been exposed for allegedly impersonating an ordained Catholic priest and celebrating Mass in several parishes in Turkana County, Kenya.

Onchonga, a married father of two, reportedly gained access to the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar using forged Church credentials.

According to Kenyan media outlet, Tuko, the suspect participated in religious activities and allegedly administered sacraments in several Catholic centres, including St. Augustine Cathedral, Kalokol, St. Thomas Chapel and St. Mary’s Lodaraja.

His alleged impersonation came to light after photographs surfaced showing him celebrating Mass alongside the Bishop of Lodwar, Rt. Rev. John Mbinda, C.S.Sp.

The development was said to have raised concerns within the Catholic community after his true identity was discovered.

In a statement signed by Bishop Mbinda, the Diocese of Lodwar distanced the Church from Onchonga, clarifying that he has no priestly authority or official status in the Catholic Church.

The Diocese warned parishioners and members of the public against engaging him for any priestly or religious duties.

Police authorities have reportedly launched an investigation to determine how Onchonga allegedly obtained the falsified documents and gained access to Church activities undetected.
