Abia State Government Announces Date For March Sanitation Exercise

The Abia State government has announced Saturday, March 28, 2026 as the date for the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of March, 2026 between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00am.

A statement endorsed by the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna restricts human and vehicular movement during the period, except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.

The statement advised all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises to remain closed on Friday March 27, 2026 between the hours of 7:00am and 9:00am to carry out their own clean-up exercise.

It further called on the Executive Chairmen (Mayors) of the Local Government Councils , Traditional rulers,Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders,Youth and Women Organizations in the State are required to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well.

It directed that people stay at home, clean up their areas and work with their nose mask noting that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.

Furthermore, the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are to assemble at their usual place of take-off for deployment.
