The Abia Patriots Demands Clarification on Kalu’s Credentials, Urges Tinubu to Act
A civil Society Group, The Abia Patriots, TAP, has once again urged the Council of Legal Education, the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, and the National Youth Service Corps Scheme to promptly and dispassionately investigate allegations of irregularities surrounding Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu’s NYSC and Law School certificates, in order to restore the trust and confidence Nigerians repose on them as credible regulatory bodies.
This was contained in a statement by the Secretary General of The Abia Patriots, Mazi Adindu Madumere on Tuesday, obtained by our correspondent.
Mazi Madumere emphasized that it is crucial for the concerned agencies to immediately intervene by releasing the necessary records of the Deputy Speaker in order to put the matter to rest.
He however emphasized that in doing so, the concerned agencies must not allow themselves to be compromised, stressing that the tone of the press statement by the Deputy Speaker’s Spokesperson creates room for suspicion of complicity.
TAP appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently constitute a high powered panel of inquiry to thoroughly investigate the matter. He reminded the president that the Deputy Speaker’s imbroglio has the capacity of impacting negatively on the fortunes of the ruling party in the 2027 elections if not properly handled.
The controversy arose after the former NBA Chairman , Martin Aikpokpo questioned Kalu’s participation in the NYSC and his attendance at the Nigerian Law School, alleging that he attended both programmes simultaneously, which is against the rules.
The Deputy Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Livinus Nwabughiogu has however denied the allegations, calling them “unproven claims” and “politically motivated”.
Concluding, he said, “The Abia Patriots believe that it is essential for the issues at stake to be clarified once and for all to save the public, especially Abians, from further embarrassment.”
