Police Arrest Four Suspected Child Traffickers In Abia, Rescue One-Year-Old Baby

The Abia State Police Command has arrested four suspects for alleged conspiracy and child trafficking and rescued a one-year-four-month-old female child.

The suspects were identified as David Solomon Samson, 27, Chioma Chinaza, 40, Ogechi Onwuka, 23, and Veronica Edem Etim Tom, 21.

Police said operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Gender Section, on September 7, 2026, took custody of the suspects who were transferred from the Central Police Station, CPS, Umuahia.

According to the Police Commissioner in Abia State, CP Wilfred Afolabi on Friday, the suspects were apprehended at a hotel in Obikabia, Obingwa LGA, while attempting to sell and traffic the child.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the child is the biological daughter of one of the suspects , Afolabi stated.

The police boss said the four suspects are currently in custody while the child has been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs.

He added that discreet investigation is in progress.
