The Member representing Ohafia/Arochukwu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, *Hon. Ibe Okwara*, has commenced a 3-day comprehensive free medical and surgical outreach aimed at bringing quality healthcare to residents across the constituency.

The humanitarian intervention, sponsored by Hon. Okwara in partnership with the Okwara Foundation, kicked off on Tuesday, 14 July 2026 and will run through Thursday, 16 July 2026 at five designated Primary Health Centres in Ohafia and Arochukwu LGAs.

The outreach centres are:
1. Ogwu Ufie Primary Health Centre, Elughu Nkporo, Ohafia LGA
2. Ania Primary Health Centre, Akanu, Ohafia LGA
3. Ndioji Abam Primary Health Centre, Abam, Arochukwu LGA
4. Okagwe Agboji Primary Health Centre, Abiriba, Ohafia LGA
5. Eleoha Primary Health Centre, Ututu, Arochukwu LGA
6. Amuyi Primary Health Centre, Arochukwu

Services being offered free of charge include general medical consultations, laboratory investigations, free prescription drugs, eye screening and medicated glasses, health education and counselling, and free surgical procedures.

Speaking at the commencement, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Agu Francis Uchenna described the programme as a deliberate effort to remove financial barriers to healthcare, especially for vulnerable and underserved communities.

“The outreach is designed to provide comprehensive medical care to the people of Ohafia/Arochukwu Federal Constituency. Beyond consultations, we are carrying out surgical procedures, laboratory investigations, eye care services and providing free medications. Our objective is to ensure that residents receive quality healthcare without financial barriers,” Dr. Agu said.

He noted that the 2026 edition is one of the largest interventions by the Okwara Foundation, with an expanded team of specialists and logistics to accommodate more beneficiaries.

According to him, free surgical procedures are being conducted at two specialised centres: Ania PHC, Akanu and Ndioji Abam PHC, Abam. Patients from other centres requiring surgery are being referred there for evaluation and treatment.

The CMO disclosed that some complex cases identified, including those of Master Gabriel Emega and Chinoso Moses, will require specialist care at tertiary hospitals like the Federal Medical Centre. He assured that the Okwara Foundation has taken full responsibility for their referral, treatment and continued management.

Dr. Agu added that the outreach is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health, with certified practitioners overseeing all procedures. The medical team comprises consultant physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, optometrists and over 30 nurses.

He urged residents with previous medical reports to come along, and called on families and community leaders to mobilize the elderly and persons with chronic conditions to take advantage of the programme.

Beneficiaries praised the initiative. Mr. Friday Amaonyeze, who attended with his son, described it as “timely and impactful,” while Mrs. Enyidiya Uka, who benefited from free eye screening, thanked Hon. Okwara for bringing healthcare closer to the people.

“I pray for God’s continued blessings upon the lawmaker for his unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of his constituents,” she said.

The outreach reinforces Hon. Ibe Okwara’s focus on responsive representation and accessible healthcare as key pillars of his service to Ohafia/Arochukwu Federal Constituency.
