NISO Blames Drop In Power Supply On Transmission Lines Failure

The Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, has blamed the drop in electricity supply in Abuja, Lagos and northern states on multiple transmission line failures across the country.

In a statement, NISO said it has repeatedly curtailed allocations to distribution companies to keep the national grid operating safely.

According to the Operator, the Shiroro to Mararaba line went down from August 24 to 26, cutting a key supply route to Abuja and the north.

It added that two more lines — Shiroro to Mando and Mando to Jos — tripped at the same time.

NISO noted that backup circuits linking Apir and Lafia had already been out of service for an extended period due to faults, leaving Jos and the North-East with almost no transmission supply.

It further said a bus separation at the Mando substation disrupted the network, prompting power cuts to Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Yola and other northern areas.

The System Operator assured that it will continue to re-dispatch generation and adjust allocations to protect the wider network from bigger disturbances.
