Ukwa West Adopts Governor Otti As Sole Candidate for 2027
The peaceful land of Asa in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State stood still on Saturday, August 29, 2025 when the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti and his entourage came to receive new entrants into the fold of the Labour Party.
Speaking at the event which took place at Obehie Primary School field, Governor Otti encouraged the new members, led by a veteran journalist and former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Ralph Egbu, to be steadfast in their new political journey while encouraging those yet to join the ruling party in the state to do so without further delay.

“I truly truly welcome our new joiners and their followers. If there are a few more people that have not cued in, please let them know that they need to walk into the train before it leaves the station.”
Reacting to a request made by the Mayor of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Pastor Dike Briggs Nwankwo, for the rebuilding of their mini stadium, Governor Otti assured the people of Ukwa West that his administration would complete and commission the project.
He gave approval for the Mayor to go ahead and clear the site and erect a perimeter fence while his government would rebuild the mini stadium which is located near the local government headquarters.
“I want to also acknowledge the issues raised by the executive mayor of this local government, particularly the issue of a mini stadium. I have had a little discussion with him, and I was told the mini stadium’s location, which is now a thick forest, is close to the local government headquarters. And I have just given him approval, to go back and resume the mini stadium. And after that, demarcate it with a proper fence, thereafter, the mini stadium will be built by the state.”
The governor also tactfully promised to support the Ukwa people to achieve their age long yearning to produce a senator for Abia South Senatorial Zone.

The issue was raised by Chief Ralph Egbu who is a two time commissioner in the state and the leader of the new entrants. Egbu in his prayer urged the governor to use his good office to help them produce a senator as according to him, Ngwa section of the zone has been the one producing senators for the zone.
In his response, Governor Otti said, “If it didn’t happen yesterday, and didn’t happen today, it may happen tomorrow.”
Earlier in his speech, the state chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Sir Emmanuel Otti appreciated the governor for finding time to come to receive the new members.

He recalled that a similar event took place at Nkporo in Ohafia Local Government Area a week before, when the party received into its fold, former deputy governor, Sir Ude Ọkọ Chukwu and his followers.
According to Sir Otti, the significance of the people joining the Labour Party is because Abia has a performing governor.

“Last week, we were at Nkporo to perform a similar ceremony. And today we are going to do it again. The significance of this ceremony is because we have a performing governor.”
He recalled that what the governor is doing in the state is a reflection of his 2015 manifesto when he contested on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
He noted that Governor Otti has been true to his campaign promises from 2015.
Sir Otti who described the governor as a promise keeper enumerated some of the achievements of the present administration, especially in the area of sanitation.

He recalled that Abia was known as a “stinking state”, but the Alex Otti led government has changed the narrative by flattening the curve of filthiness in the state.
Encouraged all and sundry to throw their weight behind the governor for continuity and for more dividends of democracy.

High point of the event was the formal receipt of the new members by handing over the Labour Party flag to them.
Seventy top politicians of Ukwa West bloc who came from PDP, APC and APGA, joined the Labour Party alongside their numerous supporters and support groups.
They were led by Chief Ralph Egbu.

Governor Alex Otti was adopted as the sole Governorship Candidate of Ukwa West for the LP in Abia come 2027.
