“Our children should know their culture and connect with their roots” — Chidi Okoronkwo

The need for parents and guardians to always bring their children and wards to their home towns, at least during this festive season has been stressed.

A community leader, Hon. Chidiebere Daniel Okoronkwo stated this on Saturday while speaking to Dreamnews on the phone.

Hon. Okoronkwo, who is the Supervisory Councilor for Education in Bende Local Government Area said the idea helps young people to connect with their roots and familiarize themselves with the culture and traditions of their people.

He was reacting to questions on the significance of the Amazu Egbeigiri Cultural Carnival which holds on the 30th of December every year.

According to him, the essence of the event is to keep the values, culture and traditions of Amazu Egbeigiri in Bende Local Government Area alive for generations unborn.

Hon. Okoronkwo who is the Chairman of the Carnival Planning Committee called on parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards participate in the event which he said creates room for brotherly love, affection and community development.

Speaking further, Hon. Okoronkwo said this year’s event promises to surpass previous events as preparations are concluded for a super outing.

On his part, former councilor who represented Umuhu Ezechi Ward in Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Ifeanyi Osondu Ukoji, reaffirmed the commitment of the organizers to a great outing.

He said the aim of the event is to unite the people of Amazu Egbeigiri through their cultural heritage and teach younger generations “our cultural values”.

Hon. Ukoji who doubles as the Chairman of Old Amazu Cultural Union, said there would be masquerade displays, poetry, music, drama, dancing competition, cultural red carpet among others.

He called on the good people of Umuhu Ezechi to come and make their holidays, memorable.
