“No LG Or State Pension Verification” — Abia Government Clarifies

The Abia State government through the Ministry of Information has warned pensioners in the state to disregard a fake message circulating on social media and other online platforms, announcing a State and Local Government Pension Verification Exercise scheduled to commence in Abia State on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

In a statement on Wednesday , October 15, 2025, signed by the commissioner for information, Prince Okey Kanu said the announcement is false, misleading, and not issued by the Abia State Government. According to him, the said verification exercise being referenced actually took place last year in 2024, and there is no such pension verification exercise scheduled for this year, 2025.

The statement advised members of the public, particularly, pensioners to disregard the circulating notice and not to appear at any purported verification venue, as no such exercise is taking place at this time.

“The attention of the Abia State Government has been drawn to a misleading message currently circulating on social media and various online platforms, claiming that a State and Local Government Pension Verification Exercise is scheduled to commence in Abia State on Wednesday, October 16, 2025.”

“The Ministry of Information wishes to categorically state that this information is false, misleading, and not issued by the Abia State Government. The said verification exercise being referenced actually took place last year in 2024, and there is no such pension verification exercise scheduled for this year, 2025.”

“Members of the public, particularly our esteemed pensioners, are therefore strongly advised to disregard the circulating notice and not to appear at any purported verification venue, as no such exercise is taking place at this time.”

The release further reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to the welfare and well-being of all pensioners and pledged continued effort to uphold transparency and due process in all matters relating to pension administration.

“We urge all citizens to rely solely on official government communication channels for verified information and to help disseminate this clarification to prevent misinformation.”
