“No Government Excels With Antagonistic Citizens” — The Abia Patriots

The Abia Patriots (TAP), has emphasized the need for citizens to support positive government policies and programmes, for the good of all.

The convener of the group, Rev. Ogbonna Ogwo made the call on Saturday while speaking to newsmen at the inauguration of the movement in Umuahia, adding that the government needs the support of the people.

Rev. Ogwo explained that the aim of the group is to sensitize and shape public opinions on the need to separate falsehood and propaganda against government programmes.

“The government belongs to the people and no government will excel where there are antagonistic views and perceptions.”

“We are here to create awareness on the damaging effects of falsehood and malicious remarks against government programmes and policies. We want to educate the public on the need to critically look at what the government is doing and what the government plans to do and support in their own little way.”

He is of the opinion that the banter and war of words in the state is not necessary at this time, rather that the government should be encouraged to do more.

“There is no need for that banter going on in Abia. We are looking at seeing the broader picture and not picking holes from everything the government does.”

“We are not against criticizing the government but let it be done with good intentions. Raining attacks on the government in the name of opposition are uncalled for.”

“Remember, nobody is perfect and we must not expect the government to be a perfect one. Those at the helm of affairs are humans and they can make mistakes. Let us not look at the little errors and use it as basic for unnecessary attacks on the government.”

“If you observed anything that did not sit well with you, you can draw the attention of the government with the spirit of sportsmanship. We must desist from distracting the government in the name of playing opposition.”

Rev Ogwo called for patience and tolerance, adding that Rome was not built in a day.

“We all can see the new things happening in the state. Don’t expect the government to do everything at once. Abia is a work in progress and what we are saying is that all hands should be on deck to achieve the Abia of our dreams.”

He called on lovers or good governance to join the group, adding that very soon, there would be local government and ward arms of The Abia Patriots .
