The Chairman of the ruling Labour Party in Abia State, Sir Emmanuel Nwaeze Oti, has maintained that the insistence of the embattled Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the party, has forced members to dump party.

Sir Oti, who made the revelation on Wednesday during a monitored interview, opined that the party would have been more formidable had Abure and his cohorts, relegated their selfish interests to the background and step aside for the progress of the party.

He revealed that the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, had made several attempts to convince Abure to step aside for the interest of the party, pointing out that the Governor has also given Abure the option of becoming the Chairman of Board of Trustee of the party, which did not come to fruition.

Sir Oti, also hinted that the Governor, at some point , appealed to Abure, to vacate his position and even contest for any position of his choice, saying that those efforts by the Governor did not yield any positive result as Abure continued to lay claim on the National Chairmanship position.

He insisted that till date, the leadership of the Usman Nenadi Caretaker Committee of the Party, remains the only recognized leadership of the party, maintaining that the Supreme Court judgement did not ask for sustenance of the status quo rather it recognized that once the tenure of the Chairman expires, the person should step aside.

On Governor Alex Otti’s defection to the All Progressives Congress APC, Sir Oti, said it is only a rumour, stressing that the Governor will consult Abians whose mandate he still enjoys, before making a move.

Oti who admitted that politics involves due consultations and calculations, urged Abians to disregard such rumours, saying that the Governor is poised to continue ensuring that dividends of democracy are delivered to Abians who wholeheartedly voted Governor Otti.

He called for prayers from Abians, reiterating that Governor Otti remains focused and committed to the welfare of Abians.
