Governor Otti Launches ABSIID In Grand Style

The Abia State Government has launched the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development (ABSIID) project. The project is a strategic step to accelerate infrastructural development in the state.

The launch which took place at the JAAC Building Ogurube Layout Umuahia the state capital is a multi-sectoral initiative aimed at revolutionizing road infrastructure, combating gully erosion, and building efficient waste management systems.

Speaking at the event launch, the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr Alex Otti, emphasized that ABSIID is not just about road construction. According to him, it’s a comprehensive plan to stimulate job creation in agriculture, transportation, and light manufacturing.

The project also captures erosion control and waste management components, designed to bring relief to threatened communities and open up investment opportunities in sanitation and environmental sustainability.

Governor Otti revealed that although the initiative was conceived before his administration, it was his government’s leadership that gave it life and expanded its scope to cover more critical development areas. He assured the public of full transparency and judicious use of every fund that comes into the State for the project.

On his part, the Minister for Finance, Wale Edu, represented by Dr. Oyadele Akonde, praised the Governor for his prudent use of state resources and strong commitment to improving infrastructure.

Lending his voice, The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti, also noted that ABSIID will significantly reduce travel time and cost, while creating thousands of jobs across the state.

Development partners including the African Development Bank (AfDB), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the Canada-Africa Development Bank Climate Fund (CACF) pledged their continued support to the project.

With ABSIID, Abia State is firmly on the path of integrated and sustainable development under the visionary leadership of Governor Alex Otti.
