“Fubara Will Be A Ceremonial Governor” — Political Analyst

A social and political affairs commentator, Bassey Anse has posited that the Governor of Rivers State, Simi Fubara would be a decorated political office holder.

Bassey who was reacting to the return of Governor Fubara after a six month suspension occasioned by the declaration of an emergency rule in the state by President Bola Tinubu on March 18, 2025.

Speaking on Spin FM polical programme, Hard Talk, on Thursday, Bassey opined that with the local government elections already conducted and winners inaugurated, the governor is coming to work with a structure set up by another person and would work in the interest of the “ọga at the top”.

“The governor will be a decorated political office holder because he has no structure on the ground to work with.”

“The local government elections have been conducted and you saw how APC won almost all the local council areas. The governor is only coming to be a stuge”.

“Fubara has been defeated. He will only be a ceremonial governor. He may be smiling, but I believe he has something in mind though but I don’t see him doing much.”

“There are powers stronger than him in Rivers and there’s nothing he can do about it.”

According to him, the return of Fubara as Governor does not deserve any form jubilation.

While he condemned in strong terms, the declaration of a state of emergency in the oil rich state, Bassey cautioned him (Fubara) to trade with caution and resist the temptation and the calls to probe the six month administration of Ibok Ete Ibas.

President Bola Tinubu had on the 18th of March, 2025 declared an emergency rule in Rivers State due to the political tussle between FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, suspending Governor Simi Fubara, his Deputy, Ngozi Odu and members of the state House of Assembly for six months.

On Thursday, 18th September, 2025, the out-gone Sole Administrator of the state, Ibok Ete Ibas handed over the administration of the state back to Governor Simi Fubara upon the expiration of the six month suspension.
