Extra Judicial Killing, Bende Residents Picket Police Station

Bende residents in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State on Saturday, October 25, 2025 besieged the Bende Division of the Nigerian Police in protest over alleged killing of a middle aged man, whose name was given as Akobundu Wisdom by police officers attached to the division.

One of the protesters who spoke to Dreamnews said the police invited Akobundu over a case involving theft of property. According to him, Akobundu was accused of buying stolen property from scavengers, commonly known as “Ndi Akpakara” and was invited by the police for questioning.

Upon his arrival, it was alleged that during interrogation the police brutalized him with clubs and other weapons until he became unconscious and was taken to the hospital by the police.

Akobundu died on the way before they arrived at the hospital.

Dreamnews is still investigating the matter to get the side of the police. Efforts made to reach the police public relations officer of the state command, Maureen Chinaka did not yield fruit as her phone line was reachable as at the time of this report.
