The Abia Coalition For Justice and Equity (ACJE), has raised a deep concern over a recent publication credited to the Abia APC Renaissance Group —a group widely acknowledged to be working under the influence and direction of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

The publication alleged that the recent visit of the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti to President Bola Tinubu is politically motivated, saying the governor’s visit to President Tinubu was about personal political survival.

In a press release by the group which was signed by the Convener, Comrade Okwute Otuonye, the group dismissed the publication as misleading, designed to incite hate, overheat the polity, and create unnecessary friction between the Abia State Government and the Federal Government.

It urged the public to disregard the antics of the Abia APC Renaissance Group, warning that the group has consistently chosen propaganda over truth, mischief over responsibility, and personal political interest over the collective good of Abians.

The Abia Coalition For Justice and Equity submitted that the Governor’s engagement with Mr. President was neither about personal political survival nor about partisan scheming manufactured in the imaginations of disgruntled politicians.

It emphasized that before his visit to the President, Governor Otti was at the Maximum Security Correctional Centre in Sokoto to visit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to pursuing both political and legal solutions toward a just resolution of the matter. These are actions, not political theatre—and they speak louder than any propaganda peddled by those who have achieved little beyond issuing empty statements.

“Governor Otti has shown seriousness, consistency, and courage in addressing the Nnamdi Kanu issue. His efforts in recent days offer clear proof that he is not driven by opportunism but by a genuine desire to see peace restored in the South East.”

It regretted that certain political leaders who loudly claim closeness to the Presidency—leaders who parade themselves as powerful and influential—have only succeeded in demonstrating this so-called influence through photo ops, symbolic visits, and hollow press releases. Despite occupying strategic positions from which they could meaningfully advocate solutions to the insecurity plaguing the region, they have failed to use these offices for the collective good.

The group vehemently questioned why rather than champion a course critical to restoring peace to the South East, the Abia APC Renaissance Group expend their energy cooking up falsehoods aimed at maligning the Governor of Abia State—a man who has demonstrated more initiative in days than they have in years.

The statement stressed that Dr. Alex Chioma Otti remains focused on governance, development, accountability, and service delivery in Abia State, adding that he would not be distracted by individuals who have failed to provide impactful representation for their constituents but instead prefer to heat up the political atmosphere of the state for their own benefit.

It concluded by urging Abians to disregard these failed attempts to confuse the public, saying the Otti administration remains committed to the peace, progress, and prosperity of Abia State and would continue to act responsibly, transparently, and in the interest of the people.

“Enough of the falsehoods. Enough of the incitement. Abia deserves better than the politics of desperation”.
