The Dr Ogbonnaya Ọnụ Polytechnic (formerly Abia State Polytechnic), Aba Abia State has made history in Nigeria in the issuance of certificates to graduates from the school by signing up to one hundred and fifteen certificates in one day.

The Rector of the institution, Dr Christopher Kalu Okoro shared the news in a monitored radio interview in Umuahia on Sunday, September 14, 2035.

According to the Rector, the days of issuing statements of results by the institution are over as the Polytechnic baned the practice which was the norm before Dr Okoro took over as the Rector.

He described the information on social media which alleged that the institution has been frustrating graduates of the school as false, misleading and unfounded.

“That information is falsehood, 100% falsehood. For us here at Dr Ogbonnaya Ọnụ Polytechnic, we are very responsible and very responsive.”

“When I took over as the Rector of Dr Ogbonnaya Ọnụ Polytechnic, we stopped the issuance of statement of results. We made it compulsory that, students upon graduation are given there certificates. And that we started as at June 2024 and we have maintained that.”

“Since I took over as at 1st of June, 2024 till date, I have issued well over fifteen thousand certificates, that’s an average of one hundred and fifteen certificates a day. I don’t think any polytechnic, any university in this part of the world can equal that.”

Dr Okoro, popularly called “The Star Boy”, frowned at the practice in the school by his predecessors who according to him were more interested in issuing statements of results and paying less attention to the issuance of certificates.

He lamented the frustrations faced by students upon graduation before now were meant to pay for the statement of results would would wait for about a month air more to get the statement. He also said the graduates were also made to wait up to one year or more before getting the certificate.

“Students would pay money for statement of results and then come back again and pay money from the statement of results. It’s not fair to the students. And they will take time to collect statement of result, maybe one month, five months, one year to atọ collect statement of result and then spend another year to collect certificates. Then said no! It is wrong!”

“The best thing is, once they graduate, issue them with certificates and the business is over. Why would you allow people to pass through the same road twice when they can just do it once.”

Dr Okoro described those peddling the false information as street urchins who were exploiting students and are now wrathful because their source of business has been closed .

“Let me also tell you, those of them that are saying this, it’s very very simple, we stopped their markets.”

“These are street urchins who have used our higher institutions to make money. And then they go on collecting money from students in the name of helping them to to facilitate certificate. You don’t do that when Okoro is around. You can’t try that nonsense and if course His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti will not tolerate that.”

He advised those who use social media to lay their complaints to desist from such, stressing that certificates are not issued on social media. He emphasized that the institution is issuing certificates every day, urging graduates to do things the right way.

He queried why a sane person would finish school at Dr Ogbonnaya Ọnụ Polytechnic, only for him to run to social media to request for certificate.

Dr Okoro maintained that the school is issuing certificates on daily basis, emphasizing that standards must be maintained.
