Dr C.K. Okoro, The Trail Blazer
Encomiums have continued to pour on the Rector of Dr Ogbonnaya Ọnụ Polytechnic Aba (formerly Abia State Polytechnic Aba), Dr Christopher Kalu Okoro, as he added another feather on his cap.
On Friday, October 24, 2025, the Nigerian Environmental Society confered on him an “Award of Honorary Fellowship of Environmental Genius” at the luxurious Nixcon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
The award is in recognition of his outstanding achievements in environmental development strides.
In a goodwill message, endorsed by its Chairman, Chief Emeka Ìgwe Kalu, Abam United Assembly described Dr Okoro as a “rare gift” to Abia State.

While they congratulated him for this prestigious award, the group encouraged Dr Okoro not to rest on his oars but to see the recognition as a call to do more, adding that the reward for good work is more work.
On their part, Abam Peoples Forum described Dr Christopher Kalu Okoro as an embodiment of character, discipline and integrity.
A statement by the forum, jointly signed by the President General, Comrade Kalu Ndukamma and the Secretary, Sir Ndukwe Onyekachi urged the Rector to keep Abam proud, pledging their unalloyed support in his endeavours.
Different student unions of the Polytechnic were not left out as of the messages tagged the Rector, a “trail blazer”.
Speaking to Dreamnews in an exclusive interview, Dr Okoro appreciated Abians for their massive support for him, students and staff of the school, friends and well wishes.
Dr Okoro equally appreciated Chief Chijioke James Ume, popular known as Ike Abam, the founder of Unubiko Foundation.
“Let me thanks my brother, a man who has shown me great support, Chief Chijioke James Ume, Ike Abam, he is somebody I have great respect for. I am proud of him and all that he is doing for the people of Abia and Nigeria”
He thanked the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti for the opportunity given to him to serve, while promising to keep the flag flying.
“I want to thank all Abians for their messages, prayers and support. I am encouraged by their show of love.”
“But then, I want to specially thank the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti OFR for the confidence he has in me and for giving me this great opportunity to serve Abians and humanity.”
“He has been a source of inspiration to me. When I look at what he is doing in Abia, I am always encouraged to support him by doing my best in my own capacity.”
