Court Stops Sowore’s #ReleaseNnamdiKanu Protest

The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining public peace in line with constitutional provisions.

This follows a subsisting order of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, issued on October 17, 2025, by Justice M.G. Umar in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/2202/2025 — FRN v. Omoyele Sowore & 4 Others, which restrains the respondents and their associates from staging protests within and around Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

In a statement, the Force urged all groups—whether in support of or opposed to the agitation for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu—to comply strictly with the court order. It reiterated that while citizens have the right to peaceful assembly, such rights must be exercised responsibly and within the bounds of the law to ensure public safety and national security.

The statement further advised intending protesters and counter-protesters to avoid restricted areas and desist from any act capable of provoking violence or disrupting public order. The Police warned that anyone who exploits protests to incite violence, carry weapons, vandalize property, or cause harm will face decisive legal action. It added that digital evidence from social media would be deployed in prosecuting offenders.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the FCT Commissioner of Police and other relevant commands to enforce the court order, maintain strategic deployments, and ensure the safety of residents and lawful activities in the capital city.

The Force assured the public of adequate security arrangements and urged citizens to go about their normal activities without fear. However, it warned that anyone who defies the court order will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
