Climate Change: Okonjo-Iweala Commends Governor Otti for Climate Change Compliant Transport Sysytem

The Director General of the World Trade Organization, (WTO), Dr Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti and the government of Abia State for their contribution in helping to make our air cleaner and better.

Okonjo-Iweala gave the Commendation in Umuahia on Monday while speaking at the official commissioning of the new electric buses purchased by the Abia State government to improve cleaner environment.

“And I do want to commend the governor, the deputy governor, the commissioner, and to commend our brother for his part in helping to make our air cleaner and better.”

The former Finance Minister who noted that though Africa contributes about 3% of global carbon emissions, which she said is very limited, acknowledged that all of us have to contribute to a better climate for the world.

“And even though Africa contributes only 3% of global carbon emissions, which is very limited, yet all of us have to contribute to a better climate for the world.”

Dr Iweala who described the invitation to commission the electric buses as a wonderful surprise noted that one of the major problems the world is facing now is pollution and climate change, saying that the fact that in Abia state; “we are doing something extraordinary in bringing these buses, it’s just a delightful thing.”

She expressed optimism that the project would be sustained.

“So I hope that this is just the beginning, and we will go from strength to strength.”
