A support group in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, known as APC Grassroot Volunteers have criticized the recent remark made by the senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, insinuating his desire to stay in the senate as long as he desires and the sudden declaration by his younger brother Mascot Uzor Kalu to vie for the office of governor of Abia state.

In a statement on Sunday, October 26, 2025 signed by the Publicity Secretary, Comrade Egbe Maduka and made available to newsmen, the group described the move as “an old political format” deployed by both of men to gamble for power.

The statement said the move would jeopardize the chances of APC in Abia state, adding that the attempt would fail.

“Our attention has been drawn to the autocratic declaration by Sen Orji Uzor Kalu insinuating his desire to stay in the senate as long as he desires and the sudden declaration by his younger brother Mascot Uzor Kalu to vie for the office of governor of Abia state.”

“The forum wishes to notify the unsuspecting electorates that this is an old political format deployed by both of them to gamble for power, this old format will jeopardize the chances of APC in Abia state, this attempt will fail.”

While it acknowledged the constitutional rights of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and his brother, Mascot Uzor Kalu to seek for any political office in the country, it warned the leadership of the party and President Bola Tinubu to be wary of such old fashioned politics.

“For the records, they both have the constitutional right to seek for any office in the land.”

“We wish to inform all APC leaders and Mr President to be very careful in trusting the sincerity of these wishes.”

The group regretted that the remark of the former Abia State Governor and the declaration of governorship ambition of his brother Mascot Uzor Kalu could bury the party that they have worked hard to build in Abia State, pointing out that it could have grave consequences.

“We have worked hard to build APC in Abia, this political adventure is going to bury the party more than we can imagine.”

“This old format hatched by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu will have political consequences.”

It concluded by calling on party leaders to be disciplined and mature in their conduct as we approach the next election, adding that in a democratic setting, the people decide who represents them and not by political rascality as being displayed at the moment in Abia state.

“The forum will not watch our party destroyed by this selfish behaviour.”

“Party leaders must be disciplined and mature in their conduct as we approach the next election.”

“In a democracy, it is the people who decide who represents them not by political rascality as being displayed at the moment in Abia state.”
