Akume Remains SGF, Presidency Clarifies

The Presidency has cleared the air on the status of Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.

Reacting to the information circulating in the media that Akume has been replaced by President Bola Tinubu, the Special Adviser to the president on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga in a press statement on Saturday, June 28, 2025, said the information was “untrue.”

According to Onanuga, the president is currently in Saint Lucia on a work visit and has not made any new appointments.

Onanuga described the information as a fabrication of agents of mischief, while advising Nigerians to disregard the fake news.

There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.

The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.

The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news.
