ABIA NUJ CONSTITUTES CARETAKER COMMITTEE FOR INFORMATION CHAPEL
The Chairman Abia State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Chidi Asonye has inaugurated a Caretaker Committee for the State Information Chapel in a bid to restore order in the union.
While Comrade Ayim James Agbai will serve as chairman, Lucky Juliet Meregini and Oluchi Franklin-Oji will serve as members.

This follows the expiration of the tenure of the former executive of the State Information Chapel on March 22, and the subsequent dissolution of the executive.
In his address, Comrade Asonye charged the committee to galvanize the chapel and conduct elections within the next three months, emphasizing the need for fairness and adherence to the union’s constitution.

On his part, the National Officer of NUJ, Comrade Ezeogo Boniface Okoro, emphasized the need for the caretaker committee, citing the failure of the former executive to conduct elections 30 days before the expiration of their tenure. He then advised the committee to unite the chapel and ensure its strength and stability.
Contributing, Chief Journalist Obinna Ibe, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, poured encomium on the council executive for selecting notable union members as members caretaker committee. Ibe stressed the importance of unity and peace in the State Information Chapel.

Responding on behalf of the Caretaker Committee, Comrade Ayim James Agbai, chairman of the committee, assured the state chairman and his executive of their commitment to delivering accordingly, promising to remain loyal to the state council and discharge their duties in strict compliance with the NUJ constitution.
